God as Father reigns with providential care over His universe, His creatures, and the flow of the stream of human history according to the purposes of His grace. He is all powerful, all knowing, all loving, and all wise. God is Father in truth to those who become children of God through faith in Jesus Christ. He is fatherly in His attitude toward all men

This is the God most people think of as God.  This is the God of the Jews and the Allah of the Arabs.  A mean old man sitting in the balcony, pointing his finger at us and saying “stop it!”

The God of Islam is “making a list and checking it twice.  Gonna find out who’s naughty and nice.”  It’s all a balancing act.

The God of the Jews is creator and lawgiver, slow to anger, and one who helps those who help themselves.

To us, God is a loving protector.  He cares for his creation, forming Adam to be caretaker of the Garden.

We see grace in every part of the Bible.  When God destroyed the world with the flood, he retained a remnant.  When Sodom & Gomorrah were destroyed, God took the time to rescue Lot and his family. Even after Samson had rejected the council of God, he was redeemed to God’s favor in order to do the work of God again.  King David, guilty of death crimes, was forgiven by God to do good work.

“Full of lovingkindness to His children.”

Even the laws are for our benefit, not just to stop us from having fun.  God foreknew the pain of divorce, he heartbreak of broken relationships with your parents.  He knows we need times of rest and refreshment.

We now think of “an eye for an eye” as tough justice, but it is an act of grace.  Before then, it was an arm for a finger, a life for a leg.  All out of proportion.  God set the justice standard to be fair and to take care of us.

Because He is fatherly in His attitude toward all men
